HISTORY OF HIPHOP DRESSING IN URBAN IN AFRICA
Hip Hop gained its roots in the early 80’s through to the 90’s and with time became a culture.
It came with its way of life like dressing, dancing, singing, walking etc. this lifestyle found its way into urban cities in africa and we picked it so fast.
The fashion trend in the Hip Hop world has been really interesting and in africa this is how it went down.
1. Baggy Jeans
In the 90’s baggy jeans were the issh and the wearing of oversized T-shirts was en vogue, not wearing them meant you were archaic or outmoded.
2. Wearing Jeans Inside Out
Once upon a time, we used to wear our jeans inside out.
3. Wearing Your Jeans From Front To Back
Thanks to Kriss Kross, in the 90’s Ghanaian guys used to wear their jeans from the front to the back. That means the back pockets of the Jeans were worn in front and the front pockets were actually at the back.
4. Big Boots
Back in the day, it wasn’t fashionable to wear boots that fit. Young men were wearing boots twice their size.
5. Bandana
The Bandana became so popular in Ghana thanks to Tupac it was worn to almost every occasion. Some tied it on their head as head gear while others tied it to their wrist. Some let it drop from the back pockets all in the name of fashion.
6. Slim Jeans At The Bottom
In the 2000’s the trend changed to slim jeans but they are usually slim at the bottom and baggy at the top, from the thigh upwards.
7. Slim Fit Shirts
With time, we reduced the material to fit slim to the extent even when it doesn’t fit people will still wear it.
8. Torn Jeans (Crazy Jeans)
We are in 2016 and it seems we going back to the stone age in the world of Hip Hop fashion. Now young men tear up their jeans into two, wear one like a sock and the other as shorts.

ripped urban fashion alert
The ripped Jeans trend is certainly back from the 90’s and like never before it’s way hotter and won’t be leaving the scenes for a long time to come.
In a recent survey carried out regarding women rocking the ripped jeans trend, a few member of the opposite sex were asked what their take was and if it was okay for a lady to bare out some skin considering that fact that she already has an appealing figure that constantly draws attention to her God given structure.
An average score of 60% voted yes while the remaining 40% voted no from reasons based on religious beliefs, over exposure and how a woman should stay fully covered. To some extent I totally agree with the nay Sayers. Just because it’s a trend doesn’t mean anyone and everyone can join the bandwagon.
P.S: I’ve seen some really over the board ripped jeans that shouldn’t be all up in our faces.
Here’s 5 ways to rock the ripped jeans trend yet maintaining your cool.
1. Accessories
You can never go wrong with these especially when they have elements showcasing the feminine side. They come in feminine colors like pink shoes, or carry details like feathers, both can actually work the magic. You want to give this expression of ‘sexy yet good enough to take home to mama.’
2. Go Black
While black makes you look slimmer, it also helps conceal a lot of those curves which could a bit over emphasized on a plus sized lady wearing a lighter shade of denim.
3. Pair it with a chic blouse
Let’s be frank no one wants to date a tom boy. Imagine walking into a restaurant with le’boo and everyone’s trying to figure out if two males just walked. Be the goddess that you are. A beautiful female blouse would do over your favorite ripped jeans.
4. Wear them as casuals
A perfect recipe for disaster would be wearing your favorite ripped jeans to a business meeting. “But it’s a weekend even though it’s also meeting.” I get it, but can we please remind you it’s a BUSINESS meeting? An environment where you’d be meeting important people. Keep it simple but professional. Save them for your night outs or hang out with friends and family.
5. Less is more
There’s this saying I’ve heard over and over again, “if I can have the milk then why should I buy the cow?” Just saying. A woman’s body is like a work of art. Its best treasured when not over exposed.
