A MAN FOR THE WEEKEND a master romantic piece from one of Cameroon most dynamic and versatile screen goddess Syndy Emade along side Nigerian mister looking good and sexy for the ladies Alex Ekubo may leave some audiences confused depending on their expectations for the film. It was curious, though how the trailers portrayed the movie to be one way, and the film ended up being completely different.You know there is always a twist when an independent career driven young lady go out on a hunt for mister right and end up getting hook hook with the wrong brand of man meanwhile all the chase was just to please and ease up the pressure from her that she has atleast brought some cool looking handsome dude home her hopes was high maybe because of the looks but failing to realize that not every men with trouser and shirts is the real deal.
Let us begin with the fact the film doesn’t spend a long time with getting into the suspense that was advertised. Probably one of the most visual standouts of the movie will be the bed snoring and some romantic gesture of frustration. (As seen in the trailer) What I appreciated was how the camera angles plays and the editing , sound and the rest of the cast was fantastic
As the story progresses, we get a handful of suspenseful moments. Personally, some of those moments will get you at the edge of your seat
From a cinematographic point of view the dialogue was on point the scripting roles to tell a story like one of those James Hardley Case classic epic romantic dilemma
Due to the slow pacing of the film, it really makes you feel as though it’s much longer than it actually may be. The plot is just as engaging as it may be compared to one of those black Hollywood type of movie .Most of all the writing for this story did the film some justice . and the director did his job The relationship, interactions, and feelings between the SYNDY and ALEX characters was very so authentic.
A MAN FOR THE WEEK END
is the type of movie that hoped could be carried more so by its star power rather than the story itself. Happily , I think some of the biggest network and distribution could help this film. You should know going into the film that it is probably 65% romance/drama and only 35% suspenseful story is a deal breaker . If you go in with those expectations, I think you’ll better appreciate the film. I could recommend this for more than a matinee or maybe a pay per click online viewing at best.
